Nugget was brought into our care after his mother was hit by a car in Lyndoch. He was thrown out of the pouch when his mum was hit and was found in the middle of the road by a family while on their way to school. He was completely hairless and bruised and was only 750 grams. We weren’t sure if he would survive, but he did and has become our “Lucky Nugget.” Rose mentioned, “he’s my little piece of gold” as they’re very rare to find baby euros in the Barossa.
His name has two meanings though: one because he was so lucky, and two because he left little nuggets everywhere!
Unfortunately, in 2024, Nugget passed on for unknown causes. He will forever be my favourite rescue animal and hold a special place in my heart. He was the first joey I looked after at the rescue, and it brought me so much joy seeing him grow and play with Snug over the years. Just like other rescuers, we all get affected by the loss of a rescue animal, but sometimes we create a bond with some animals a little more than others and when they leave us, our heart breaks just a bit more. Those animals stick with us throughout our lives.
